The Africa and Middle East Research Division of the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik has run an annual German-Iranian Dialogue since 2001 (interrupted from 2006-2009) that brings together leading politicians and civil servants with researchers from SWP and the Iranian Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS). The dialogue takes place in a small-scale confidential format to enable an open exchange of views. Talks focus on bilateral relations, current political developments in Germany, Iran and the Middle East as well as on questions of regional security. The last dialogue was held in Berlin in 2019.
