BackThe Research Division explores political structures, social processes and developments in foreign, security and military policy in the post-Soviet states of Eastern Europe and Eurasia, in particular Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, the South Caucasus and Central Asia.
On the domestic level the analysis and classification of forms of rule and regime development have priority. In the international realm the Research Division is especially concerned with issues of regional stability and conflict, as well as with the foreign and security policy of the countries of Eastern Europe and Eurasia and their relationship to or integration into European and Euro-Atlantic institutions. Correspondingly, the analysis of German and European policy towards these states is also a key task of the Research Division.
